Meet Pastor Paul Zerbst

Paul joined Palmetto Community Church (PCC) as the full-time Senior Pastor in March 2022.  While previously serving as a Bi-vocational Pastor for 10 years, Paul interacted daily at his secular job with people of different ages, races, and backgrounds.  He saw the hopelessness of those in the world without Jesus and desires to train God’s people how to love on the lost and share God’s love with them while strengthening their own faith.

Paul graduated from Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary with a degree in Biblical Studies with emphasis on preaching and evangelism.  He and his wife Traci have two married daughters, Amy and Ashley. In his free time, he enjoys going for long bike rides and spending time with his family.

What We Believe

STATEMENT 1 – THE HOLY BIBLE

We affirm that the Holy Bible is divinely inspired Word of God and is inerrant in the original manuscripts and infallible in purpose and affect. It is unique, full, and final authority on all matters of faith and practice. There are no other writings similarly inspired by God.

STATEMENT 2 – GOD THE FATHER

We affirm God the Father is the first person of the Holy Trinity. In general, the name of Father applied to deity signifies that He is the origin of what is subject to Him, a supreme and powerful authority, a patriarch, and protector.

STATEMENT 3 – GOD THE SON

We affirm that Jesus Christ is the eternal second person of the Holy Trinity and is God. He was united forever with true human nature by a miraculous conception and virgin birth and lived a life of perfect obedience to God the Father. He voluntarily gave His life for the sins of all the world throughout time by dying on the cross as their substitute. He thus satisfied Divine justice and accomplished Salvation for whoever trusts in Him alone. He arose from the dead in the same body in which He lived and died, though glorified. He ascended into heaven, sat down at the right hand of God the Father, where He, the only Mediator between God and Man, continually makes intercession for His own. He shall come again to earth visibly, in His perfected body to consummate history and the eternal plan of God.

STATEMENT 4 – GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT

We affirm that the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity and is also God. He was sent into the world by the Father and the Son to apply to mankind the saving work of Christ. He enlightens the minds of sinners, awakens in them recognition of their need of a Savior, and regenerates them. At the point of salvation, He permanently indwells in every believer to become their source of assurance, strength, and wisdom. He uniquely endows each believer with gifts for the building up of the Body. The Holy Spirit guides beliefs in understanding and applying the Scripture. His power and control are appropriated by faith, making it possible for the believer to lead a life of Christ-like character and to bear fruit to the glory of the Father.

STATEMENT 5 – SALVATION

We affirm that the Salvation of mankind is wholly a work of God’s free grace and not the result in whole or in part of human works or goodness. Salvation must be personally appropriated by faith in Christ and repentance from sin. The central purpose of God’s revelation in Scripture is to call all people into fellowship with Himself. Man can no longer fellowship with God because of Sin. Man’s fall from Grace took place at the beginning of human history, and all individuals since have suffered these consequences and are thus in need of Salvation, the Saving Grace of God. When God has begun a saving work in the heart of any person, He gives assurance in His Word that He will continue performing it until the day of its full consummation.

STATEMENT 6 – BAPTISM

We affirm the public and symbolic nature of Baptism. Since the early church, Christians recognized baptism as the first step of obedience in their new life in Christ. When Christians are baptized, they use this act as a symbol to express what has already taken place in their life when they repented of their sins and placed their faith in Christ for salvation. It was assumed everyone who became a Christian would want to be baptized as quickly as possible.

STATEMENT 7 – COMMUNION

We affirm the public and symbolic nature of Communion. Also called the Lord’s Supper, Communion is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members of the church, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming. It is a solemn event in the life of every Christian and is not to be taken lightly or without full knowledge of its meaning to the individual and within the Body.

STATEMENT 8 – SPIRITUAL GIFTS

We affirm that the Holy Spirit gives Gifts to every believer to be used for the building up of the Body of Christ just as all believers are baptized into Christ at salvation. These Spiritual Gifts are given to each person as the Holy Spirit sees fit and are to be exercised according to biblical guidelines and priorities.

STATEMENT 9 – JESUS’ RETURN

We affirm that the personal, bodily, and visible return of Jesus Christ to establish His kingdom, over which He will reign in righteousness and peace, is reality. Furthermore, after the Great White Throne judgment, a new heaven and a new earth will be brought into existence and the old shall pass away, as it is written in His Word.

STATEMENT 10 – MARRIAGE, DIVORCE, REMARRIAGE

We affirm that marriage is a life-long commitment to one man to one woman. (Matthew 19:4-6) Weddings conducted by the church pastors will include that life-long vow and will only be conducted between a man and a woman who were physically created as such by God at birth. Whether a person is a man and woman is determined at birth. We believe Scripture permits the remarriage of a divorced person when (1) the divorce occurred prior to conversion, (2) the divorce occurred when one’s mate was guilty of sexual immorality and is unwilling to repent and live faithfully with his/her partner, (3) the divorce occurred when one mate was an unbeliever and willfully and permanently deserted the believing mate. We will make every effort to encourage reconciliation. As with all other matters, we believe that the grace and complete forgiveness of Jesus Christ calls us to offer that same love and compassion to all believers regardless of their past.
