Sharing Your Faith 101
Lesson 3: Personal Testimony- tell your story
B.C. (Before Christ)
Share what your life was like before accepting Christ as Lord and Savior. Be careful not to spend too much time here and give Satan the glory that only God alone is due. Give general information, not details of all the sins you have committed. This should be the shortest part of your testimony.
C.T. (Conviction Time)
Share how you came to realize your need for Christ. Remember, Jesus is one who found you and not the other way around. The Holy Spirit is the one who convicted you of your sin and drew you to Christ. Were you alone at home, at church, watching something on TV, talking with someone…
S.E. (Salvation Experience)
Share how you were saved. Walking an aisle, saying a “sinner’s prayer”, or getting baptized was not what saved you. A personal believe in your heart in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior is what saved you (Romans 10:9-10). The Bible describes this as being born again (John 3:3). This is where you can use Scriptures from “Starting Spiritual Conversations” may be used talking about how you were a sinner, what you believed in your heart, and what you are committing to do.
A.C. (After Christ)
Share how Christ has changed your life since He saved you and what He is presently doing in your life. Every Christian should give testimony of a decreasing pattern of sin and an increasing pattern of righteousness and Christ-likeness in their lives. Also, we should give evidence of an ongoing trust in God’s faithfulness to meet our every need, sustain us through every trial we face, and give us victory over temptation. This should be current information. You should be excited about this!
*Your Personal Testimony is your most important tool, as no one can argue with what happened to you, especially if the person you are talking to knew you before you were a Christian and see a big change now.
*Your Personal Testimony is like your fingerprint – it is unique only to you. Do not compare your story with others or feel like your testimony is not “good enough” because you weren’t saved from a despicable life of sin!
